Biography | |
Yuliya was born in Kiev, Ukraine in early 80âÃÂÃÂs and grew up in the port city of Vladivostok. In 1997 her family immigrated to the United States. After living 11 happy years in Minneapolis, she discovered a home for her soul in San Francisco where she has been living since June 2008.
Since Yuliya's early school years she loved math and science and was never exposed to art until she got a chance to study in Rome, Italy in the year 2000. In her early 20âÃÂÃÂs Yuliya's mind changed drastically, and the love of math was completely overpowered by newly discovered passion for art. Though she took several art courses at the U of M to gain basic knowledge and was very lucky to have the opportunity to study under a nationally acclaimed artist, Herman Rowan, she considers herself to be a self-taught artist.
Yuliya's favorite subjects are surrealism, expressionism, and impressionism. She admires the works of Salvador Dali, Picasso, and Yang Yang.
The content of Yuliya's work is derived from self-analysis, her perception of the surrounding world, uses colors, images and texture as an attempt to express thoughts and to convey emotion. During the process of painting the brush writes in a subconscious language that speech and text are not able to convey. Every piece has a unique story to tell and is an exigency, an extreme urge, and its completion is a satisfying release. |
